Privacy
A letter from the authorities is personal. Here is plainly what happens with it.
This is an MVP. This page explains how the product is designed to work. It is not a legally reviewed privacy policy yet, and the provider details will be added before a public launch.
In short
- Your photo never leaves your device. There is no cloud text recognition in this version.
- Names, addresses and numbers are blacked out on your device. Only the anonymised text is sent.
- We do not track you, have no accounts and store no letter content.
What happens on your device
When you add a photo or a PDF, your browser reads the text from it. This is called OCR. The image is not uploaded for this.
Next, the app finds personal data such as names, addresses, dates of birth, IBANs, e-mail addresses, phone numbers and reference numbers, and replaces them with placeholders like [NAME]. You see the result and can hide or show single words.
The list of which placeholder stands for which real value stays in your browser. It is used to fill your real details back into the German reply drafts, also on your device.
What is sent, and to whom
Only the anonymised text is sent to our server, together with the language you chose. Our server passes it on to the Anthropic Claude API, which writes the quick answer, the explanation and the reply drafts.
Our server does not log the text and does not store it. As an extra safety net, it refuses text that still looks like it contains an IBAN, an e-mail address or a phone number.
Anthropic processes the text as our service provider. Please see their terms for how they handle API data.
Which devices work
Your letter is read on your device. You need a reasonably current browser (the latest Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari) on a phone, tablet or computer that supports WebAssembly and Web Workers.
Very old or low-memory devices may not be able to read photos. On those, PDFs that contain text and the demo with sample letters still work. There is no cloud fallback in this version: the image is never sent anywhere.
What we store
On our server: nothing from your letters. No photos, no text, no mapping of placeholders.
In your browser (local storage): your letter history, consisting of the anonymised text and the analysis, never photos. You can delete it in the app at any time or by clearing your browser data.
Cookies and tracking
We use no analytics, no advertising and no tracking cookies.
One small cookie remembers your language choice (English or German). Nothing else is set.
Your choices
You can use Amtskram without an account. You can delete your history on your device at any time.
Because we store no letter data on our server, there is nothing there that we could look up, correct or hand over.
